Looking Back and Moving Forward
As Nodier Law celebrates its 3-year anniversary on July 1, 2019, it is my pleasure to share our recent accomplishments and to touch on opportunities for the year ahead. I’m proud to tell you that we accomplished a great deal in the last year and earned many achievements that have benefited our customers and our organization. Here are a few highlights.
Success in the Courts
In late 2018, we scored notable victories in the courts. In November we tried a jury trial for a client in the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans. The plaintiff asked for $893,534 at closing, but the jury returned a defense verdict, much to our client’s satisfaction.
The good news followed in December as the Eastern District Federal Court in New Orleans denied plaintiff’s Motion to Remand and granted our Motion for Summary Judgement on liability in a hit-and-run case wherein our client was misidentified as the tortfeasor.
These results continue in 2019. So far, our most notable is a Motion for Summary Judgment granted in a restaurant slip and fall case in Federal Court in Alexandria. The plaintiff claimed extensive injuries and damages and had treatment in at least two states. This victory saved the client from potential significant exposure, and extensive defense costs of developing defenses relative to medical causation.
Another recent victory came when a case was transferred to Nodier Law in late 2018. The case lingered for nearly 2-years with virtually no work performed before the transfer. On the date of transfer, trial was scheduled in three months and and a Motion to Compel was pending against the client. Within 5 months Nodier Law attorneys were able to recognize an opportunity for indemnity and defense, tender and precure same, and assist in closing this file completely for our client.
Closing Files
Nodier Law successfully closed 80 percent of the files assigned to us in 2018 within 4 months of assignment.
We also sought and successfully received full defense and indemnity for a client whose previous attorney had left them with 13 troubled files. The files, which were in complete disarray, were several years old. One had been lingering for 8 years. Within four months we successfully closed half of those files, including the 8-year-old suit. The others are in the process of closing or will close within a year of assignment.
Client Insight
At Nodier Law, we know that each client has unique circumstances and needs. That is why we are dedicated to working with each individual client to ensure we are exceeding expectations and pushing files to resolution quickly and successfully. Our 2018 accomplishments show we are doing just that.
Looking forward
To meet the growing demand for our services, we’re pleased to announce the hiring of attorneys David C. Bolton and Sophia D. Alurkar. David’s expertise includes personal injury defense and medical malpractice defense. He brings with him significant jury trial, appellate and Louisiana Supreme Court experience. He also enjoys an excellent reputation with the bar. Sophia graduated near the top of her law school class and has 7-years of practice experience in several areas, including patent law. Sophia has a medical and science background which gives her a unique perspective for evaluating workers’ compensation and personal injury claims.
Louisiana’s plaintiff bar is robust. One cannot watch TV, listen to the radio or even drive down the street without being bombarded with attorney advertisements promising quick and easy money. With suits against businesses and insurers being filed at a record pace, Nodier Law is well positioned and ready to continue protecting our clients from this onslaught in 2019 and beyond.
