Keeping Cool in August: Defense Verdict and MSJ Win
Nodier Law’s clients enjoyed a successful month in August. On August 15, Matthew Nodier and Amanda McGowen took on a large advertising plaintiff’s firm in what was supposed to be a five-day jury trial in East Baton Rouge Parish. The case involved a minor automobile accident. The client was forced into this trial because plaintiff’s attorneys refused to acknowledge potential liability issues and refused to back off their claim for a future life care plan. The trial ended up lasting 7 days. On the seventh day, plaintiff’s attorney asked for an award of $4,073,000 in closing. The jury deliberated for less than an hour and returned a unanimous defense verdict.
Less than a week later, Matthew Nodier won a Motion for Summary Judgment on a premises liability case in Lafayette Parish. The judgment dismissed all of plaintiff’s claims against Nodier Law’s clients, with prejudice.
August capped off a successful summer which saw multiple claims settled in mediation, traditional negotiations, via motions, and trial. All of this illustrates Nodier Law’s mission and ability to close files by any means appropriate for each file. We’re looking forward to continuing this trend as we move into the Fall.
